The grass growing season is upon us and once again we have some vacant properties that do not have maintained lawns. Town Code allows for lawns to grow to 12″ prior to being considered in violation in accordance with Chapter 74 of the Camillus Municipal Code, Brush, Grass, Rubbish, and Weeds. If you feel there is a nuisance property that is in violation of this please notify myself (706-8803 or mwlaflair@aol.com) or Camillus Codes (487-8930). Once contacted the property owner is notified to resolve the issue. If the owner does not comply a resolution is needed to authorize Code Enforcement to proceed with a property cleanup. In the 2nd Ward there are a few abandoned properties that are on my watch list. We will try to be as pre-emptive as possible but do not hesitate to call if need be. I am currently researching other municipal codes to see if we can further enhance our law to ensure property owners are not taking advantage of the system.
Overgrown Lawns
May 24th, 2014Camillus Award Winners
May 24th, 2014I had the pleasure of attending the District Attorney’s luncheon on May 7 and was able to see three local residents receive awards: Ruth Boshart received the award for her work with Project Lifesaver, Delaney Nolan received a scholarship award, and Marshall Winn, son of Camillus Police Chief Thomas Winn received the Lindsey Fair Youth Encouragement Award for his heroism in rescuing swimmers on Lake Ontario. I think its great to have such strong recognition come from the Town of Camillus.

Government Consolidation
May 13th, 2014Join F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse and Consensus CNY on Friday, May 16 to learn more about Consensus CNY and its effort to evaluate government structure in Onondaga County in an effort to provide better services more efficiently to the community. In 1999 F.O.C.U.S. held a Vision Fair where citizens had the opportunity to vote on 87 community goals to enhance our quality of lives and our economic future. Citizens voted to: “CONSOLIDATE CITY AND COUNTY GOVERNMENT” AS THEIR No. 4 PREFERRED GOAL. Consensus is a giant step in accomplishing that goal! Cathy Richardson, co-chair for Consensus CNY, and Kathy Murphy, board chair for Syracuse 20/20, will discuss how we can make our community more sustainable by looking at local governments for efficiencies and collaborations. The event will be held at City Hall Commons at 201 E. Washington Street in Syracuse at 7:30 a.m.
