Report
Onondaga County contracted F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse to find out what citizens wanted for the future of Onondaga Lake. A new Survey Shows Educational Campaigns of Local Business Coalitions (like SyracuseFirst) Are Delivering Big Benefits.
The Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) just released their 9th annual survey of more than 3200 independent business owners, nearly 100 #SyracuseFirst members. The results provides (mostly) great news for independents and again shows sustained “buy local” campaigns and Independent Business Alliances are yielding an enormous return on investment. Among the major findings:
▪ Independent businesses in communities with an active “buy independent/buy local” campaign run by grassroots groups saw revenues grow by a stellar 7.4% in 2015 — dwarfing the 4.2% increase for businesses in communities without such an alliance.
▪ 76% of business owners who actively market their participation in their group reported positive impact on their business, while just 17% of those who don’t actively promote the effort saw benefit.
▪ Independent businesses reported a 5.3% increase in employment in 2015.

Move in day for Canal Crossing Apartments
March 31st, 2016The Canal Crossing Apartments at Township 5 in Camillus has begun taking lease applications with the first tenants targeted to move in on April 30, a company spokesman said. The 96-unit complex sits to the rear of Township 5, a growing retail complex that includes a Costco, a Movie Tavern, smaller stores, medical offices and restaurants. “Being close to all that brand new retail makes this property more attractive to renters,” said Kevin Morgan, vice president of Morgan Management, which is building the apartment complex. The company is also building apartments in Clay and Baldwinsville. Canal Crossing has one and two-bedroom apartments, a pool and clubhouse with a fitness center. The complex is pet friendly. The apartments either have a patio or a balcony. Rent for a one-bedroom apartment starts at $1,050 per month. A two-bedroom, two-bath apartment lease starts at $1,125 per month. Renters pay more if they have pets, Morgan said. Morgan Management has been in the Syracuse market since 2006, and the company believes there is pent-up demand for new apartments here, he said.
