Town of Camillus/W. Genesee Community Hall of Fame Ceremony

On Saturday, November 5, 2016 the Town of Camillus Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the 9th annual Town of Camillus/West Genesee Community Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This years event will be held at Case De Grande, 135 State Fair Blvd., Syracuse at 7:00 PM with doors opening at 6:30 PM. Congratulations to all the inductees.

Township 5 updates

Workers from All Wall Builders are working on the shell of what will be a new Petco store near the Movie Tavern in Township 5 in Camillus.
The 13,000-square-foot store is expected to open in February, according to a newsletter from the Cameron Group LLC, which is building the center located off Hinsdale Road near Route 5. All Wall Builders has also begun construction of a 19,000-square-foot building for multiple retail tenants, said general contractor Alex Ewaniszyk. Cameron’s newsletter says Vine & Barrel will open early next year as the anchor tenant for the building also located near Movie Tavern. The Cameron Group will present plans for a new 90-room tru by Hilton hotel to the Camillus planning board on Monday. Construction is to begin in the spring with the hotel completed within a year.

Camillus Police Department

Congratulations to 2nd Ward resident and Camillus Police Officer Stephen A. Pigula who was promoted to the position of Sergeant with the Camillus Police Department at last Tuesday’s Town Board meeting. Sgt. Pigula has been an asset to the Town and the Department since joining and I am looking forward to his continued success.

Fairmount Fire Department Open House

Fairmount Fire Department will be hosting their Open House on Sunday, October 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will feature aerial truck rides, demonstrations on vehicle fire and rescues, bounce house, free blood pressure checks, and free pizza

FEMA Event

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region II Office and the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NY DEC) would like to partner with you to inform Onondaga County residents of the flood risks shown on the preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) by hosting a series of Flood Risk Open House meetings.

The Open Houses will provide residents with the opportunity to meet with experts one-on-one to learn more about their flood risk, get information on potential changes to flood insurance rates or requirements, and learn tips on how to mitigate and prepare for future floods. The Open Houses will occur on:

Odors – OCRRA Airpirt Road

Over the past several weeks we have been experiencing an increase in calls due to odors that appear to be emanating from the OCRRA site on Airport Road. It seems to be mainly due to the increase in continual warm weather. We have met with OCRRA and the NYS DEC to put pressure on them to address this issue. NEW BUSINESS

1. Approve the appointment of Patricia Bacon to the position of Senior Citizen Coordinator.

2. Effective September 12, 2016 appoint Stephen D. Watkins of Camillus New York as a lateral transfer Police Officer with an annual base salary of $64,786.00 and a 12 week probation period. (Per Personnel Committee)

3. Approve the Memorandum of Understanding for the donation of land situated near the southeast corner of the Devoe Road and Van Alstine Road intersection which includes the historic site of the former Dill House and most of the pond including the viewing platform from Paul Dudden to the Town of Camillus for the Erie Canal Park.

Additional Playground Funding – $100,000

For those of you who were unable to attend the official ribon cutting at the new Camillus Splash Pad in Camillus Park, there was a special announcement. Camillus will be receiving an additional $50,000 from our NYS Senator John DeFrancisco and $50,000 from our NYS Assemblyman Gary Finch. My sincere appreciation for this additional $100,000 in funding.

July is battery Month

July is battery month per OCCRA, people may place their batteries in the bags provided by OCCRA and place them on top of their totes, the drivers are aware and will be exiting the trucks to pick up the bags.
