In 2013, Comptroller DiNapoli implemented a statewide fiscal stress monitoring system to identify local governments and school districts experiencing fiscal stress. The goal of the System is to inform both municipal leaders and taxpayers of the budgetary and economic challenges facing their locality so that actions can be taken when appropriate to avoid a fiscal crisis. The System uses data that is already submitted by local governments to this Office to calculate a fiscal stress score and to classify an entity in “significant fiscal stress,” “moderate fiscal stress,” “susceptible to fiscal stress” or “no designation.” As of August 29th 2014, our review of the 2013 Annual Update Document (AUD) for the Town of Camillus has been completed. The Town’s fiscal and environmental scores and designations are outlined below.
| FYE | Fiscal Stress Score | Fiscal Stress Designation | Environmental Score |
Environmental Designation |
| 2012 | 18.8% | No Designation | 8.3% | No Designation |
| 2013 | 6.3% | No Designation | 8.3% | No Designation |
Need a Costco fix before the warehouse club opens next month at Township 5? You can get one, sort of, at the Home Depot plaza at the corner of Hinsdale Road and Milton Avenue, just down the street from the Township 5 site. Costco has an office set up there in advance of the chain’s local opening on Oct. 24. It’ll be the first Costco in Upstate New York. You can get information on memberships and jobs at the store. Remember, there’s much more than Costco coming to Township 5. Developers say most of the project’s tenants should be open this year. Work is well underway on buildings that will house LongHorn Steakhouse, Mesa Grande Taqueria, Metro Mattress, Sally Beauty, Hoopla! Frozen Yogurt, T-Mobile, Hair Studio One, GNC and Buffalo Wild Wings.
As the opening of Township 5 approaches the street infrastructure is nearing completion. Starting tomorrow (September 29), newly installed traffic signals at nearby intersections has been installed in will be in operation. Please ensure to be aware of this and use caution as it will be new to everyone.

A student in the West Genesee School District has been diagnosed with enterovirus-D68, the rare virus that can cause serious breathing problems in children. Dr. Christopher Brown, the district’s superintendent, notified parents today in a letter posted on the district’s website. ” … we will do everything possible to help keep you informed and prevent the spread of the virus,” Brown said in the letter. “We will wash and disinfect our facility, classrooms and materials regularly.” Enterovirus-D68, EV-D68 for short, has been sickening youngsters nationwide. The virus, which can cause respiratory illness, primarily affects children with asthma. Brown’s letter did not disclose the student’s age, school or condition. Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital announced Friday it had admitted three Central New York children under age 10 who tested positive for EV-D68.The hospital said today it has seen a spike in the number of children being admitted for treatment of respiratory virus. Symptoms of the virus begin like a cold with runny nose, coughing, congestion, fever and body/muscle aches. Some children, particularly those who have asthma, may develop wheezing and breathing difficulties. In his letter, Brown said many of these symptoms could be indicators of a common cold. He advised parents to contact their doctors if they have concerns about their children. He said children should be free from fever and vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school.
As the development of Country Oaks continues we have been working with National Grid to complete the lighting plan for the development. They will be placing 12 additional 100w high pressure fixtures on 14′ fiberglass embedded poles using 100w traditional luminaries. The hope to have these installed prior to Halloween. To view a map of the placement click here: Country Oaks Lighting Sept 2014. The placement spots are the dark circles.
