The next meeting of the Community participation working group for the sediment containment area is Tuesday, February 7th, 4:00 pm at the NYS DEC Regional Office on Erie Blvd.  They plan on having their meetings on the first Tuesday’s of each month for now.  For more information go to the NYS DEC’s website at http://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/8668.html.

Karyn Johnson from Onondaga Co. Health Department will be giving a short presentation before the Town Board meeting on January 24th in regards to Complete Streets.  Complete Streets is a program that assists in creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play in Onondaga County.

The Next meeting for the West Genesee Re-districting Committee will take place Thursday, February 2 6:30 pm at the West Genesee Middle School.

An unplanned Special Board meeting was called to order on January 10, 2012.  the main purpose was to allow the Comptrollers Office to hire a person for a part-time position.  It is my understanding since taking over the Comptrollers Department, Cathy Albunio, has done an exceptional job.  With everything now up to date, to keep things as they are additional help is necessary.  On the recommendation of Cathy Albunio, Ann Marie Paoli has been added to her staff.  I congratulate Ann Marie and look forward to working with her.

All itmes previously posted for the agenda were approved.   I am proud to announce that in keeping with my platform to increase government efficiency, by a vote of 6-1 (R. Griffo voting nay) the Town Board has decreased the size of the Zoning Board by 2 seats and reduced the Planning Board by 2 seats and eliminating the alternate’s position.  Even though the financial savings are small ($10-15,000) per year plus the contribution years later for the State Retirement system, it is important that we start somewhere.  In addition, too much government and fragmentation stifles economic growth.  We need to unify our resources and make it easier for everyone to do business with our municipality.

The Town of Camillus Highway Department does a fantastic job keeping our roads clear in the winter.  However, many roads in the town are county roads and are maintained by the county.  If you have any issues with the maintenance of these roads please county the County Dept. of Transportation (435-3205) or our County Representative Derek Shepard (638-2422).  The following roads are county maintanined:  Van Buren Rd., Armstrong (N. & S.), Belle Isle Rd., Milton Ave., Pottery Rd., Thompson Ave., and Winchell Rd.
