Combating rising State Mandates
March 10th, 2012At the last session of the Onondaga County Legislature they memorialized a resolution urging the Governor & State Legislature to adopt measures to reduce the high cost of the mandates passed down to the County. Currently the entirety of the County property taxes collected go directly to the state to cover our mandated pension & Medicare costs and it is estimated that from 2001 to 2014 these cost will have climbed 2400%. I want the residents to be assured our County Legislature is doing everything in their power to combat this.
Local Tax Break approved for volunteer Firefighters/Ambulance
March 10th, 2012From an earlier post I noted that the Onondaga County Legislature will hold a public hearing at a on Tuesday, March 6 1:00 to consider a resolution authorizing a partial real property tax exemption on real property owned by an enrolled volunteer firefighter or volunteer ambulance worker residing in the county.
I am happy to report this was approved and is another signal of the cooperative nature of the relationship between the town and the County Legislature under the leadership of the Chairman of the County Legislature Ryan McMahon.

Help Save West Genesee Modified Sports
March 7th, 2012Current economic times have resulted in the West Genesee School District reducing the modified sports programs. As a result, 300 student athletes will no longer have a chance to play modified sports. A community group has been formed to try to save modified sports at West Genesee and received your support. I would like to congratulate the organizers and community for raising $75,000 to “SAVE MODIFIED SPORTS” for 2011. The fund raising for 2012 has begun. Please continue to support the youth in our community with your donations. More information is available at there website: www.savemodifiedsportsatwg.com
Township 5 Update
February 29th, 2012As I had mentioned during my campaign, I feel it is very important to communicate with you on a regular basis. Staying true to that pledge, I also made it a priority to provide consistent updates in regards to Township 5. I recently met with Kevin Eldred from the Cameron Group, and we have agreed to meet on a quarterly basis to keep the residents informed of the progress of the project. As many of you know, over the last several years, market conditions have put many real estate development projects across the country on hold and this one is no different. Fortunately, market conditions are improving and hopefully Township 5 will benefit from this. As mentioned we will be meeting regularly and I look forward to a positive and proactive relationship with the Cameron Group.
