The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will hold an open house meeting on Thursday, March 31, 2016 regarding a resurfacing project on Route 5 in the towns of Camillus and Elbridge, Onondaga County. The open house will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Camillus Municipal Building, located at 4600 West Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY 13219. At the meeting, preliminary drawings for the upcoming project will be available for review and representatives from NYSDOT will be present to answer questions. No formal presentation is planned.

Preliminary plans call for milling and resurfacing Route 5 from Hamilton Road to Chamberlin Drive in the town of Elbridge and from Sunview Drive to Route 174 in the towns of Elbridge and Camillus. In addition, minor drainage, sidewalk and safety improvements will take place at various locations within the project areas. Traffic will be maintained during construction, with flaggers when necessary. Access to driveways will be maintained at all times during construction. Work is expected to take place during the 2016 and 2017 construction seasons. Dog Lodge opening in April at Gossamer Farms in Camillus

March 26th, 2016

Gossamer Farms in Camillus is branching out from alpacas to dogs. Owners Cindy Maggio and her son Ben Allanson have turned an old riding ring on the alpaca farm into a dog kennel. The Dog Lodge, 6001 W. Genesee St., is the same location as Maggio’s alpaca farm. The farm located at the bottom of a long hill on West Genesee Street is familiar sight for drivers heading west into the village of Camillus. The new kennel will board up to a dozen dogs, as well as provide doggie daycare, Allanson said. The animals are housed in 5-foot by 6-foot kennels. The dogs will be allowed into a fenced area to relieve themselves, and the farm has several fenced off areas to allow the animals to exercise. The options for exercise run from taking long nature walks on a leash, to time alone romping in an 8-acre pasture. The cost is $38 a day to board and $28 a day for daycare. The lodge will open on April 15. Phone 315- 320-6020

Chipolte opening March 26

March 19th, 2016

Denizens of the Western Onondaga suburbs won’t have too much longer to wait to get their Chipotle fix. The fast-food restaurant at 3600 W. Genesee St., which is almost directly across from Target, will open on March 26, said one of the managers who came to the door Tuesday afternoon. The date is the Saturday before Easter. Unfortunately, the restaurant is closed on Easter, but will reopen Monday, said the manager, who declined to give his name. The Camillus Chipotle will be the fourth restaurant in the chain in Onondaga County. The chain has stores on Marshall Street in Syracuse, Erie Boulevard East in DeWitt, and on Route 31 in Clay. Customers have been so anxious to sample the food, they’ve been knocking on the doors wanting to get in during construction, the manager said.

Camillus Canal Society – Volunteer/Member Dinner

March 13th, 2016

The Camillus Canal Society held its annual Volunteer/member Dinner on Saturday and I was very happy to attend. I want to offer my sincere thanks and appreciation to all those that not only received an award but for the tireless work you do. The volunteers worked a total of 26,500 hours, and I am sure some were not counted. This is roughly the equivalent of 14.5 full-time employees, ranging from laborers to skill craftsman. This would equate to an estimated $725,000 in annual costs to the town.

Camillus Dog Shelter

March 8th, 2016

Were you aware that one of the many ways Camillus has been proactive to maximize the efficiency of services while saving the taxpayers is to share Dog Control with the Town of Van Buren. The Shelter is overseen by Melissa Mariano. The NYS Department of Agriculture & markets recently performed its regular inspection and found no issues. My thanks to Melissa’s continued hard work and dedication to making Camillus a great place.
