IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING SCHOOL TAX COLLECTION

August 24th, 2020

Onondaga County will be mailing out school tax bills to Town of Camillus residents on September 4. Starting September 8, the Town of Camillus Town Clerk’s office will begin accepting payments on behalf of the West Genesee, Solvay, and Marcellus school districts.

PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO NEED TO PAY TAXES IN PERSON!

For everyone’s safety, please send your payment by mail or pay online at: www.townofcamillus.com

You may not know that of the 10,000+ payments processed each tax season by the Town Clerk’s office, nearly 90% are regularly paid by mail or online. Receipts are automatically mailed back to the property owner and duplicate bills or receipts, tax info, and payment status can be easily obtained at any time from our website.

This year, for the health and safety of our residents and the Municipal Building staff, we are strongly encouraging ALL residents to take advantage of these easy and health conscious payment methods! Even cash payments may be easily converted to a bank check or money order and mailed or the funds may be electronically transferred via your bank.

Please note that, should payment be made in person despite the safer alternatives, those doing so should be prepared for extended wait times as the additional measures and precautions needed to comply with sanitation and social distancing will significantly slow our ability to process in person payments.

Please share this information with friends and family who may not have access to social media and who can benefit from the lack of risk in paying by mail or online!

Loop the Lake Trail – West side extension completed

August 22nd, 2020

A great way to enjoy our waterfront community. Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon announced an extension of the Loop-the-Lake Recreational Trail on August 12, 2020. The new asphalt trail, which will allow greater access to the Onondaga Lake shoreline, has bench seating and runs over a mile from Honeywell’s Onondaga Lake Visitors Center to the Harbor Brook area, lengthening the Loop-the-Lake network of trails to nearly nine miles. National Grid warns of scammers

August 20th, 2020

With the COVID-19 pandemic causing financial stress on many individuals, National Grid is alerting customers about a recent phone scam, where imposters are promising refunds or discounts. Here’s how scammers are trying to prey on customers:

• Customers may notice their caller ID displays an incoming call is from a phone number in a nearby town or even the neighborhood where they live.
• When customers answer the phone, a recorded message explains that due to being overbilled, they are owed refunds or discounts on their utility bills.
• The customer is instructed to press ‘1’ to learn more about the refund or discount.
• The customer is transferred to a live person, who explains that the customer is eligible for a refund or discount.
• The caller then begins probing for personal information, which may include a ZIP code and the utility bill account number.

The scammer eventually may try to have the customer provide bank account or other personal or financial information. Divulging this level of information can lead to identity theft or customers having their bank accounts accessed.

Scammers have become increasingly sophisticated in replicating National Grid’s recorded messaging and directions for phone prompts, making it more difficult to differentiate an actual National Grid phone call from an imposter’s call. Similar scams have been reported across the U.S. by other utilities.
Customers who have fallen victim to the scam should immediately contact National Grid by using the toll-free telephone numbers listed on their billing statements. The company wants to protect customers and offers the following warning signs to detect this recent scam:

• Do not cave to pressure. Never – under any circumstances – offer personal or financial information to someone who you cannot identify.
• Scammers will not have access to your account information, and you should never provide that information if you are asked.
• National Grid representatives who call you will know your account number.
• Verify that you are speaking with a National Grid representative. Ask the caller to provide the last five digits of your National Grid account number.
• If the caller does not know your account number, hang up the phone.

Parks and Recreation Summer Programming CANCELLED

June 22nd, 2020

The Town of Camillus Parks and Recreation Department has made the difficult decision to cancel our summer programs. This decision was made in conjunction with the West Genesee School District and the result of the associated uncertainty, the potential health risks, and a lack of current and ever changing guidance associated with the COVID-19 virus.
