County Executive Ryan McMahon Announces Passage of Local Law Providing Free Burials for Veterans

County Executive J. Ryan McMahon, II announced that the County Legislature has unanimously passed a local law eliminating burial fees for Veterans. The law also eliminated fees for spouses and eligible dependents of Veterans. The County Executive first announced the proposal at the 2019 State of the County held on February 26th at LeMoyne College. County Executive J. Ryan McMahon, II said, “Since my time on the Legislature, I have heard the concerns of many of our Veteran’s regarding the costs associated with burials at our Veterans Cemetery. When I became County Executive, I promised to do something about it.” McMahon continued, “Eliminating these fees, which are an unnecessary hardship on our Veterans, was simply the right thing to do. I applaud my partners in the Legislature for recognizing the importance of getting this done and for their vote of support. Most importantly, thank you to the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our country every day.” The local law now goes to the County Executive for signature. A mandatory public hearing will also be held at a time and location to determined.
