Railroad Quiet Zones

I am happy to announce the establishment of a “Quiet Zone” for the Finger Lakes Railroad crossings at Knowell Rd., Hinsdale Rd., Milton Ave. and at the Home Depot. What this means is that beginning on June 14th the railroad will no longer be required to blow the horn as it approaches each intersection in either direction. The gates and bells and lights will still operate as the train enters and goes through the intersections but the horns will not operate. This should be a great relief for many residents who hear this as each train passes through these Camillus crossings. The Federal Gov’t. oversees the regulations for safety on railroads and our Town qualifies in all aspects for safety to have the quiet zone. You will notice new signs on the railroad crossing signs from all directions that will say “No Horn Signal”. Currently the signs are covered but they will be unveiled when the quiet zone goes into effect. One last point, the quiet zone will be for all hours and not just limited to the evening.
