A note from Onondaga County Legislative Chairman Ryan McMahon:
The legislature has enacted the 2016 County Budget. I am proud to say that this budget is full of major accomplishments and great projects for the county. Some of the highlights are –
•The budget is balanced, while cutting taxes and preventing sewer fee increases.
•Our county has outpaced 60 out of the 62 counties in New York for increased tourism revenue.
•It includes an increase in funding for our aging infrastructure.
•The legislature allotted $500,000 to the Greater Syracuse Land Bank so they may continue their important work of revitalizing our local communities.
•The Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides free books to enrolled children under the age of 5, was funded to the tune of $300,000
•Our concerns with addressing public safety have been funded and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department has remained within budget
•Money has been allocated to help bring in the Field of Dreams project in DeWitt, a unique facility to our area to allow children with disabilities to participate in athletic events.
•$100,000 has been put toward fighting Lyme disease and managing tick and deer populations.
The progress within our community these last few years has been something to really note. We at the legislature are very proud of the work that has been done and look forward to the future success of Onondaga County.
