Local 315 – Brewery

Looking for something new at the World of Empire Brewfest next weekend? You can’t get any newer than the beers from Local 315 Brewing Co. in Camillus. The brewery won’t officially open to visitors until July — but it’s brewing up some pilot batches that will be available at the beer fest on June 26 and 27 at the State Fairgrounds. Local 315 will offer samples of its IPA and Stout, according to Dan Matthews, a member of the family that is opening the brewery at 3202 Warners Road. The brewery has been under construction on the family’s Fawn Crossing Hop Farm for the past year. It’s not far from the intersection of Warners Road (Route 173) and Pottery Road. Brewer Josh Mersfelder has been working on the small pilot batches while awaiting the final installation of the larger brewing system the brewery will use. Local 315 will be one of about 75 breweries represented at the two-day brewfest, which has expanded since moving to the fairgrounds from Clinton Square in downtown Syracuse last year. Altogether, more than 150 beers will be available for sampling. The event also features a separately ticketed Empire Wine Fest. The fest is in and around Chevy Court, so there’s plenty of space to spread out with blankets, play Frisbee, and more. The fest also features seven bands, two brewer presentations, a homebrewing presentation, a “paint while you drink wine party,” a winemaking class, grape stomping, 2 cornhole tournaments, and yard games like Giant Jinga and Giant Yard Scrabble.
