PRESENTERS: Eric Ennis, student; Rich Landerkin, CENTRO, and Mario Colone, SMTC
Eric Ennis is a Graduate Student at Syracuse University in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. Eric recently received his B.A. in Environmental Design and Urban Policy from the University at Buffalo and has worked as an intern with several organizations and institutions locally, including F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse. During his time as an undergraduate student, Eric wrote his research thesis on the former OnTrack Passenger Rail System in Syracuse. As a lifelong resident of Central New York, Eric is passionate about the future of the Central New York region, and plans to remain in Syracuse after he graduates next June.
Rich Landerkin has been involved in transit planning & service delivery in various capacities for 35 years. He began his career at NJ Transit in the late 1970s before moving to Fairfax County, Virginia’s Office of Transportation in the 1980s. In 1994, Rich moved his family to beautiful Central New York where he became Director of the Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council, the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Syracuse region. For the past 17 years, he has been Director of Planning for the Central New York Regional Transportation Authority, which provides public transportation in Onondaga, Oswego, Oneida and Cayuga Counties, NY. Rich has experience in transit service and operations planning; transit scheduling, Long Range Planning, project management, grant research and management, contract service administration and Transportation Demand Management. Rich has a Master’s degree in Urban & Regional Planning from the University of New Orleans and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Rider College.
Mario Colone is the Program Manager with the Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council (SMTC) and has been with the agency since 2001. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Mr. Colone manages the area’s multi-million dollar federal transportation capital program, ensures conformance with applicable air quality standards and diverse federal and state agencies develops/manages multimodal projects and oversees various aspects of the metropolitan transportation planning process for the Syracuse metropolitan area.
