Camillus Consolidated Water District Abolishment

Camillus Consolidated Water – Residents will be able to vote on a referendum to abolish the Water Department on Tuesday October 30th at the Town Hall and have OCWA take over the Camillus territory.  A letter will be sent to all customers explaining the savings but here is brief summary:

  • No loss of jobs as all employees will be able to transfer to OCWA.
  • No disruption/decrease in service as these same employees will work out of the Camillus. office in addition to the employees already working for OCWA.
  • A savings to the Town General tax base of at least $1.16 million over the next ten years.
  • Savings of upwards to $47 per quarter based on your assessed value and water usage.
  • For every $100,000 in improvements within the Camillus Consolidated Water District, it will cost each resident $.1023 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.  On a typical $150,000 home this will total $15.35.  Under OCWA, the cost increase for the same improvement would be negligible as the cost is spread among the 93, 870 customers.  Keep in mind we have an aging infrastructure.
  • The remaining funds in the fund balance should be distributed to existing customers.  This could equate to a $60-$75 check to each customer.

If you would like to see what the potential savings may be for your property just enter your assessment and usage into the spreadsheet I have attached here:  Water Compare Savings
