OCRRA Amboy Compost Facility

June 10th, 2017

To facilitate complaints associated with the OCRRA Amboy compost facility, DEC has set up an email that residents should use when they detect odors related to the facility. That email address is:

R7odors@dec.ny.gov

Anyone emailing a complaint should provide the following information:
Name and address where the odor is/was detected
The date and time the odor was detected and if it is ongoing
The date and time the odor dissipated to the point that it was no longer detected
Any characteristics of the odor such as strength (strong, weak, coming and going) and smells like coffee, chocolate, cheese, woody, etc.

For those that do not have email access, 315-426-7535. We still ask that the callers leave their name, phone number and when they smelled the odors and a description of those odors

For complaints received during normal business hours, DEC staff will make every effort to visit the site to verify the odors. DEC staff will also review the complaints with OCRRA staff.

Sketch Plan

1st Ward – New Development

June 4th, 2017

Mr. John Szczech, developer of Rolling Meadows, presented the a proposal for a new development at a recent Planning Board meeting. The
purpose of the application is to create a 102 lot subdivision using a 47 acre parcel,
formerly owned by the Church of Latter Day Saints, off of Scenic Drive and a 44 acre
parcel formerly owned by Michael Falcone, located behind the existing Annesgrove
Subdivision. The 47 acre parcel recently underwent a zone change from R2 to R3 at
Town Board meeting of March 28th, 2017. The 44 acre parcel is already zoned R3.
Mr. Szczech noted to the Board the biggest changes to the original plan are the
elimination of the road and cul-de-sac in the northwestern portion of the parcels due to
the topography challenges. The other modification is the relocation of the proposed
water tank which has been moved to the far northeastern portion of the parcels.
Mr. Szczech stated the subdivision will be constructed in four (4) phases. The first
phase will be 29 lots, in the westernmost portion of the parcels, and then continue to
construct houses towards the east.

Crimes of Opportunity

June 4th, 2017

There have been a number of items stolen from cars in Camillus lately. Chief Winn would like to remind everyone that it is important to try to prevent this from happening to you. Most are crimes of opportunity through unlocked doors and open windows. Large parking locations like shopping centers, housing communities, parks and schools are prime targets for a prowler because multiple vehicles can be hit in a short time span. Remove all items from your vehicles at night, roll up windows and lock doors, use a garage or secure location whenever possible, park in well-lit areas and always activate your alarm.

Trash Collection

June 4th, 2017

LET’S DO OUR BEST TO KEEP OUR NEIGHBOHOOD CLEAN!!
In an effort to keep our neighborhood clean, please remember the following:
1) Trash totes are to be brought from the curb back to your house as soon as possible on trash/recycling days. Remember, Town Law §50.23 states: “Empty containers shall be removed from the curb before the end of the day on which collection is made.”
Please do not leave items on the curb that have not been collected; it is an eyesore for your neighbors!!
2) Please call Dependable Disposal at 472-7455 to pick up couches, chairs, tables… This is a free service!! For a list of items they will pick up on a separate pickup date, please see our Insight magazine mailed to you in January. Please DO NOT leave these at the curb with no plans to have them picked up.
3) Don’t forget that the Camillus Landfill is open for business and will take most items that Dependable Disposal might not. It is reasonably cheap to drop unwanted items there. Visit www.camilluslandfill.com for hours of operation and a list of what may be dropped off.

Summer Town Board Meetings

Just a reminder that the Town Board only has one meeting a month during the summer, taking place on June 27, 2017, July 25, 2017, and August 22. If need arises we can call for an emergency meeting. Please contact me if this is the case.

Warners Road Zoning

June 4th, 2017

At a recent Town Board meeting there was a Public Hearing held to consider changing the Zoning Classification of parcel 015.-01-13.0 from R4 to R1. This parcel is located to the east of the Waves property at the intersection of Warners Road and Bennet Road. The R-4 District is designed to accommodate single-family detached dwellings as well as higher density multiple-family buildings. The R-1 District is designed to accommodate the least intensive category of single-family residential use.
I am not opposed to growth in the 2nd Ward but I do have concerns with potential development in this particular area in regards to increased traffic, the necessity of a second access road, the absence of sewer infrastructure and the lack of communication with the neighborhood in regards to the proposal. Furthermore, after discussions with the residents in the area, they expressed similar concerns. With this support we were able to change the zoning from R4 to R1. If any development is proposed in the future for this parcel it will be the least intensive, single-family homes only. I appreciate the community support in helping shape the future of your neighborhood.
