Deer Culling
May 9th, 2018As a result of the numerous complaints some town board members had received throughout the past few years regarding the deer population, the Town of Camillus agreed to work with Wildlife Services and some private property owners to reduce the number of white-tail deer. Properties belonging to the town were surveyed and evaluated for safety of firearms use. During the months of January, February and March, 34 white-tailed deer were removed from Camillus. These deer were processed and as a result, 1,020 pounds of venison were delivered to the food bank as a donation. We did face some challenges during the culling process. One challenge was interference with baiting activities by outside groups. Another challenge was that we had very warm weather on culling nights and the deer did not need to visit baiting stations to eat. The USDA asks that we remind residents that this is a multi-year program. We are already looking for some private properties to expand our culling next year. Those residents whose properties were part of the tick drag will be notified of the results as soon as they are in.
Air BnB
May 9th, 2018Some of the residents have called with concerns in regards to Air BnB’s. Air BnB’s is a relatively new to our market where Home Owners rent out the entire property, spare rooms or spare beds. We are currently exploring our legal option in how to regulate them. As soon as this is developed we will have a Public Hearing. As the process moves forward I will keep everyone in the loop.

Sara Young (a Parks & Rec employee) received the ABCD Award. This is given to an individual that goes above and beyond the call of duty by making an outstanding contribution to the field of public parks and recreation. The second was the Distinguished Citizen Award, presented to Mary Flynn from the Friends of Camillus Parks. This award recognizes a citizen who has demonstrated exceptional efforts towards enhancing and supporting parks and recreation in their community. It should also be noted that Mary also received this on a state wide level. I want to commend and thank both Sara and Mary for their great work.
