You no longer have to visit the Onondaga County Courthouse to read or copy deeds, court records, business certificates or other public documents. The county clerk’s office recently went live with a round-the-clock online system that allows anyone to access records.
“There has been an increasing demand for more instant access to our public records and we are excited to offer this option to our customers,” County Clerk Lisa Dell said in a news release. Anyone can search the database of records for free, which will provide an index of records tied to a specified name. To read the documents, or to copy them, you’ll have to set up an account and pay. The subscription required to read documents costs $5 for 24 hours, $100 for 30 days or $500 for 180 days. To download a document or print a copy, there is an additional charge of 65 cents per page. Sixty-five cents is the same copying fee the clerk’s office charges for customers in the office. The clerk’s office will continue to make copies for those who visit in person, Dell said. The clerk’s office also maintains several public computers where people can read documents for free.
