F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse and University College at Syracuse University are now accepting applications for the 2017 Citizens Academy Class. In its 13th year with over 400 graduates, Citizens Academy teaches participants:

How our local government works
How they can join with government leaders to effect change
How to help create the future for our community

Topics that will be covered include: Community Vitality; Economic Vitality; Environmental Stewardship; Schools, Scholars and Resources; Public Safety; Planning, Land Use and Transportation; Local Government Budget and Finance; and the Organization of Local Government.

The 2017 session will run for eight consecutive Wednesday evenings from Sept. 6 through Nov. 1, 2017 (no class on Sep. 20). The class is held from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. with a supper provided at various county- and city-operated facilities throughout the community. Each night, there will be government officials and representatives to discuss challenges and opportunities their departments are facing and to answer participants’ questions.

Participation is FREE and participants are expected to attend all sessions. There are a limited number of spots available. The deadline for applications is Friday, July 31, 2017.
